Christa Hugo
Pianist

Christa Hugo is an experienced musician, music leader, examiner, accompanist and performer.. Her first job was playing piano for a local ballet school between the ages of 12 and 18 before leaving to study music at university, gaining a BA (Hons) and, later, Qualified Teacher Status as a secondary school music teacher. Christa worked as an instrumental music teacher in schools in the South West for several years and eventually moved to Birmingham to begin working as a full-time ballet pianist at Elmhurst School for Dance, one of the top vocational dance schools in the UK. She left there in 2014 but continues to play for ballet now with the Royal Ballet School Associates. In 2012 she became a choir leader with Rock Choir, inspiring and leading around 300 amateur singers each week, directing rehearsals from the piano. This role led to numerous national radio and TV appearances and many collaborations with well-known singers including Susan Boyle, Michael Ball, Kiki Dee and Chesney Hawkes, as well as many large scale events such as the BBC Proms in the Park where, as part of the Rock Choir Vocal Group, she appeared on stage alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra opening and closing the show. She has performed in various bands over the years, and for the last few years, has worked as a Rock & Pop Music Examiner with Trinity College London both in the UK and abroad. Christa is thrilled to be bringing her talents to the Connecting Stars programme, and delights in the reactions from residents when she performs.
